SBPO Prizes
The Brazilian Society of Operational Research (SOBRAPO) is honored to announce the following awards for works presented at the 56th SBPO.
Scientific Initiation Prize
Awarded for the best scientific initiation report from students regularly enrolled in undergraduate courses or who completed their degree after August 2023 in Brazil, during the year 2023.
The papers submitted for the Scientific Initiation award will be judged by the committee below and the finalists will be invited to present their paper in a special session of the event. The winner will be announced during the event dinner.
Rules for applying for the Scientific Initiation Prize
SOBRAPO will award the best scientific initiation paper submitted by students currently enrolled in an undergraduate course or who have completed their degree after August 2023, at Brazilian universities. Candidates must submit a report that must have a maximum of 8 (eight) pages, respecting the formatting rules for complete papers. They must fill out an identification form with the names of the students, the names of their supervising professors and their institutions, and a summary of the candidate's participation in the paper.
Master Dissertation Prize
Awarded to the best Master's Dissertation that has been defended from January 2023 to April 2024, at any university and country.
The papers submitted for the Dissertation award will be judged by the committee below and the finalists will be invited to present their work in a special session of the event. The winner will be announced during the event dinner.
Rules for applying for the Master Dissertation Prize
SOBRAPO will award the best master's thesis, on a topic related to the SBPO event, submitted by masters who defended their work between January 2, 2023 and April 30, 2024.
To apply, you must submit a text of a maximum of eight (8) pages, which must follow the formatting rules for complete works (margin configuration and template) and contain the following information:
– Summary of the dissertation, highlighting the main contributions of the paper.
– Summary of publications resulting from the paper (articles published or accepted in journals and/or conferences). Highlight, if applicable, other awards relating to the work or facts that you consider relevant to this candidacy.
– Important: You must not include publications by the candidate that are NOT the result of the dissertation.
The Defense Data field must contain the following information:
– Full name of the candidate, supervisor(s), associated Postgraduate Program/University, Level: Masters, month and year of defense.
Doctoral Thesis Prize
Awarded to the best Thesis of doctors who have defended after January 2023 until April 2024, at any university and country.
Papers submitted for the Thesis award will be judged by the committee below and finalists will be invited to present their paper in a special session of the event. The winner will be announced during the event dinner.
Rules for applying for the Doctoral Thesis Prize
SOBRAPO will award the best doctoral thesis, on a topic related to the SBPO event, submitted by doctors who defended their work between January 2, 2023 and April 30, 2024.
To apply, you must submit a text of a maximum of eight (8) pages, which must follow the formatting rules for complete works (margin configuration and template) and contain the following information:
– Summary of the thesis, highlighting the main contributions of the paper.
– Summary of publications resulting from the work (articles published or accepted in journals and/or conferences). Highlight, if applicable, other awards relating to the paper or facts that you consider relevant to this candidacy.

– Full name of the candidate, supervisor(s), associated Postgraduate Program/University, Level: Doctorate, month and year of defense.
Roberto Diéguez Galvão Prize
Awarded for the best article written in English and presented during the event.
Competing for the Roberto Diéguez Galvão award, for the best SBPO article, are complete works, submitted in English, that have been nominated for the award by the (anonymous) reviewers of the paper during the evaluation phase. All works nominated for the award will be re-evaluated by a committee specifically set up for this purpose and finalists will be invited to present their work in a special session of the SBPO. The winner will be announced during the event dinner.
