Special session 1: Methodological Developments and Applications in the FITradeoff Multicriteria Method
We invite you to submit your paper for the special session
"Methodological developments and applications in the FITradeoff multi-criteria method" during the SBPO 2024 - Brazilian Symposium on Operational Research.
This session aims to bring together works with methodological contributions and new applications of multi-criteria problems using the FITradeoff method (www.fitradeoff.org).
This session brings together the following topics:
- Methodological contributions to FITradeoff
- Decision models with FITradeoff applications
- Decision support systems using FITradeoff in the model base
We encourage all researchers working on multicriteria problems to submit their paper.
Papers can be sent in full format or extended summary and must be submitted in the thematic axis SE-FITradeoff.

Special Session 2: Data Envelopment Analysis – DEA
This session aims to bring together papers with theoretical and methodological developments, as well as their applications in Data Envelopment Analysis. Furthermore, the session will also be used to encourage the exchange of ideas between researchers and their experiences in theoretical and applied AED research.
This session brings together the following topics:
- Theoretical developments in DEA.
- New mathematical models in Network DEA, dynamic DEA, among others.
- Use of DEA with other complementary approaches (such as Neural Networks, Multicriteria, Multivariate Regression, etc.).
- Software development for DEA.
- DEA applications in emerging areas, such as eco-efficiency and sustainability, among others.
Papers can be sent in full format or expanded summary and must be submitted under the thematic axis SE-DEA.

Special Session 3: Smart and Sustainable Cities & Regions - SCR
This topic has occupied an increasing space both in the media and in scientific research. This is basically due to the fact that it includes a huge range of segments of great importance in today's world. Among the topics most covered in CRIS, we can include: Social and Urban Mobility; Logistics & Intelligent Transport, including Humanitarian Logistics, Reverse Logistics (collection of organic, electronic, hospital waste, return of goods/e-commerce); Public Security and Cybernetics; Climate Change including research in (Environment; Sustainability; Natural Disasters); Green and/or Renewable Energy; Green Vehicles; Autonomous aerial vehicles (drones), land and water; New technologies in Industry 4.0, Agriculture 4.0, Health 4.0 segments; Impact of 5G technology, among many others. Recent advances in DLTs (Distributed Ledger Technologies), such as Blockchain, also include new concepts for cities such as Crypto Cities. On the other hand, when we talk about efficient methodologies and/or technologies for solving the great challenges of CRIS, we can include: Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computational Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence, High Performance Computing, Operational Research, Combinatorial Optimization, Science of Data, Robotics, Computer Vision, Blockchain, among others.
These and other topics associated with CRIS can be sent to this SE (cluster).
We emphasize that in the 2024 edition of the SBPO, and in other events, this cluster on this topic achieved great success among academia and society as a whole, both in the number of submissions and in the rich subsequent discussions. Many public and private companies are interested in segments of this topic, proven by partnerships made with city halls, state governments and companies in previous editions.
Papers can be sent in full format or expanded summary and must be submitted under the thematic axis SE-CRIS.

Special Session 4: Sea Power, Defense and Operational Research
This special session, organized by the Naval Systems Analysis Center (CASNAV), of the Brazilian Navy, aims to present articles considered promising contributions to Operational Research (OP) for the maritime, defense and security contexts.
Submission of articles for this session is open and the selection of works will follow the Symposium's rules, deadlines and procedures.
With this initiative, the Brazilian Navy, through the Navy Technological Center in Rio de Janeiro (CTMRJ) and CASNAV, seeks to strengthen communication channels with the PO community and encourage it to carry out research that contributes to the development of Brazilian maritime capabilities.
The participation of PO contributions aimed at maritime, naval, military and/or security applications is encouraged.
Additional information can be obtained from the session coordinator, Captain of Corvette FREDERICO, email luiz.frederico@marinha.mil.br or from Captain of Corvette CUSTÓDIO, email custodio@marinha.mil.br.
Papers can be sent in full format or expanded summary and must be submitted under the thematic axis SE- Maritime Power, Defense and Operational Research.

Special Session 5: Quantum Methods and their Applications in Operational Research
There has been a growing interest in quantum methods beyond the fields of Physics and Computing. This special session aims to explore the applications and advances of quantum methods in various areas of Operations Research (OR). It will be an excellent opportunity to bring together work and researchers who have been exploring the topic within the scope of PO. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Case studies and applications of quantum methods in OR
- Quantum algorithms for combinatorial optimization
- Quantum machine learning techniques for decision support in OR
- Quantum natural language processing techniques for decision support in OR
- Quantum-classical hybrid approaches in PO
Works can be sent in full format or expanded summary and must be submitted in the thematic axis SE-QPO - Quantum Methods and their Applications in Operational Research.
